Air-filled membrane structure room sprayed by a mechanical arm
![]() DF_pattern design1This project is one of the on-site built workshops in @digitalfutures.world , Air filled membrane structure room sprayed by mechanical arm. | ![]() DF_pattern design2We started from digital pattern design, while the construction group fill the membrane room with air. After that, we did the on-site verification and observation to develop the path for robotic arm. The air membrane would change shape due to the changing air pressure. Taking into account of the structural characteristics of spraying technology and aesthetics, we finally sprayed two patterns seperately for sphere and water drop air membranes. Using cells and fingerprints as inspirations. | ![]() DF_pattern design3In this course, as a member of the group of pattern design, I explored the possibilities of construct spray path with parametric approach. We tested the curve tension in kangaroo. After several iterations, we chose the final one with a gradient of wavy pattern. This design satisfies the requirements for the bottom tamping of the air-filled sprayed pavilion. In order to support the sphere itself in the most stable way, we started the spray procedure from the bottom. |

![]() Listen to the rain by boat“Listen to the rain by boat” is inspired by a chinese traditional poem “春水碧于天,画船听雨眠”, describing the view in spring in southern china. This design project creates a scene where the rippling water at the bottom gradually turns into overlapping mountains, expressing the chic feeling of people wondering around in mountains and rivers. | ![]() Listen to the rain by boatDesign project 1 for #Shanghai Space Installations and Material Exploration International Exhibition - Graduate Students Summer School at Tongji Univerdity. ![]() Listen to the rain by boat"画船听雨眠“ | ![]() Sweet voice“Eat your voice” is a sound visualization project exhibited in the Yi Feng Galleria in August,2020. Converting the sound data which was input through the firefly plug-in in the grasshopper into the parameters of the generated pattern, the customized pattern could be printed by the robotic arm with syrup. By designing the new path of robotic arm with grasshopper , we challenge the ways we experience the traditional chinese traditional Chinese craftsmanship, physically and digitally. | ![]() Sweet voice |
![]() Sweet voiceEveryone's voice has its own characteristics. They are three-dimensional, abstract, and intangible. When the robotic arm meets the traditional Chinese art sugar painting, a new interactive product is born: "Sweet voice". The machine will decode everyone's voice. The computer algorithm will design a unique pattern according to the sound pitch, and print out the syrup as 3D lines according to the brightness and durability of the audience’s live sound. Thus the voice can be seen, touched and tasted | ![]() Sweet voiceDesign project 2 for Shanghai Space Installations and Material Exploration International Exhibition - Graduate Students Summer School at Tongji Univerdity. #grasshopper #roboticarm #interactiveinstallation #soundpatterns #touchdesigner | ![]() flag#1creative coding exercise using p5.js #flag-colors/data/flagColors.json'# |
